Greece Neighbors Block Sources
Public records can place parcels and recorded owners around a Greece address, but the records have different limits. The map begins with physical geography. The assessment roll adds property information. The deed index explains recorded ownership changes, while a historic directory offers a dated street snapshot. Election and association sources are narrower: one is for an individual civic confirmation and the other is a community contact layer, not a public list of every neighbor.
| Source | What It Shows About a Block | Access |
|---|---|---|
| Town GRIMS/County GIS | parcel boundaries, addresses, roads, zoning, districts, POIs, easements | free public map/REST; informational disclaimer |
| Assessment roll | owner, owner mailing address, parcel/value/exemption/district for each parcel | public roll/portal; not household-member list |
| County Clerk deeds | ownership changes/legal descriptions and recorded parties for parcels | SearchIQS/office; modern vs pre-1975 split and fees |
| Monroe voter lookup | eligible registered-voter match by street/name/DOB/ZIP | free individual lookup; statutory use/protected fields |
| RPL street directory | historical occupants/property-owner symbols by street | digitized 1930-40; physical later/other city runs |
| Building/Code files | project/inspection/enforcement clues keyed to address | department/FOIL; no public live case list located |
| Local associations | resident-led issues/events/contact routes | organization-specific; no master Town roster located |
| GHS/Town Historian | historical photos, surveys, local names, civic context | public collection/contact; captions incomplete |
The key distinction is owner versus occupant. A Greece assessment record can connect a parcel to a current recorded owner and tax-mailing address, but it does not show every person who lives there. It can also show a separate physical situs and mailing location. Treat a nearby parcel as a property fact first, then confirm any separate person-specific question only through the appropriate official source.
Map Greece Neighbors
Use the adjacent-parcel method when the goal is to understand a Greece block. Start with the address in GRIMS or County GIS, identify the target parcel, then inspect parcels sharing a boundary or fronting the same road. The result moves from map geometry to the assessment roll. It does not skip directly from an address to a household roster.
- Enter the known Greece street address in the Town GRIMS portal or the Monroe County GIS Hub.
- Zoom to the target parcel and note its tax-map or parcel identifier, road context, and mapped address label.
- Walk the polygons that share a boundary with the target or front the same road. Pan along both sides of the street when the block edge is unclear.
- Use the parcel identifier to compare each adjacent property with the Monroe County assessment route.
- Use a deed or historical directory only when the question shifts to a recorded ownership change or an earlier street snapshot.
Where the ArcGIS app exposes a buffer or selection tool, use it to identify a street segment and cross-reference the returned parcels with the roll. The research did not capture a reliable live click-and-popup image, so the REST layers and public GIS page are the documented fallback. For the larger chain along a named road, the Greece street address directory follows the full street rather than just the immediate block.
Greece Neighbor Map Layers
GRIMS helps define what “nearby” means in Greece. Its public material includes municipal boundaries, road names, parcels, addresses, points of interest, Town easements, DPW zones, and zoning. The REST MapServer also supports layer queries and GeoJSON, and its relevant layers have a 10,000-record maximum. A block can therefore be viewed as adjacent parcels, a shared road segment, a service area, or a zoning context. Those are separate geographies.
The Town’s GIS disclaimer says its maps and data are informational and do not guarantee accuracy; official Town maps and records control. That warning is especially important near municipal edges and water features. A parcel layer locates land, but it cannot prove a person’s current presence, association membership, or private contact information.
Greece Neighbor Owner Checks
The Greece assessment roll is the owner layer behind a mapped parcel. The Town Assessor reports roughly 34,500 property records and maintains ownership and deed inventory, maps, photos, structure specifications, sales data, exemptions, and roll links. A roll entry may include current owner, owner mailing address, property location, tax-map parcel, school district, property class, prior owner, deed book or page, assessment values, exemption information, and service districts.
Those fields should be read narrowly. The sample 2025 roll distinguishes a Greece situs at 232 Almay Rd. from an owner mailing address at 245 Rumford Rd., Rochester, NY 14626. A tax-mail line is correspondence information. It is not evidence that the owner lives at the parcel, nor is it evidence about anyone else who may be present. Exemptions and property class are likewise record details, not a roster.
Note: Compare a parcel identifier and PROPERTY LOCATION before drawing an ownership conclusion from a mailing label.
Greece Neighbor Voter Limits
The Monroe County voter lookup can confirm an eligible registered-voter match for a specific civic question. Its documented fields are Street #, Street Name with autocomplete, ZIP, Last Name, and Date of Birth. The statewide New York voter lookup adds County, First Name, DOB, ZIP Code, and Address information. Neither tool offers a public browse of all voters on a Greece block.
Election Law §3-220 permits supervised public access while withholding Social Security numbers, driver or non-driver identifiers, facsimile phone numbers, signatures, and protected-voter details. A full voter-file request is governed by Election Law §3-103(5) and requires an elections-purpose statement. A missing match may reflect a move, spelling, maintenance status, protected address, nonregistration, or another limit. It never proves that a person is absent from the Greece community.
Greece Neighbor History
For an older block snapshot, Rochester Public Library’s suburban directories include Greece House and Street sections for 1930 through 1940. Open the relevant street alphabetically or numerically, record the entries and owner symbols around the address, then compare each name in the alphabetical section for initials, spouse, occupation, and post-office wording. This creates a dated historical lead. It does not establish a current Greece neighbor list.
The Rochester Public Library suburban-directory hub links the digitized collection. Historical entries can use Rochester, North Greece, Hilton, or rural-delivery labels, so a modern parcel number, legal description, road intersection, and nearby entries are valuable bridges. The Town Historian, Greece Historical Society, and local library resources can add survey, image, newspaper, or map context when the directory leaves a gap.
Greece Grand View Neighbors
Grand View Heights Association is a concrete Greece community layer, but not a people-search source. The not-for-profit association serves approximately 350 households between Long Pond and Cranberry Pond. Its public presence offers a board, documents, and an annual newsletter, with interests that include waterfront and environmental issues. It provides a route for community information without publishing a member-name directory.
| Association | Greece area | Public community layer |
|---|---|---|
| Grand View Heights Association | Approximately 350 households between Long Pond and Cranberry Pond | Board, documents, annual newsletter, and a community contact route; no public member directory |
The association meets at Lakeview Community Church on Long Pond Road, according to its public information. Board names, newsletter material, and contact options should be used for association business or public community context. They do not establish who lives at every nearby parcel.
Greece Neighborhood Code Map
The Town’s 2021 Neighborhood Code Map uses coded areas instead of informal neighborhood descriptions. It labels roads, creeks, and water bodies including Braddock Bay, Cranberry Pond, Long Pond, Buck Pond, Round Pond, Salmon Creek, West Creek, Northup Creek, Larkin Creek, and the Erie Canal. The codes can keep a Greece neighbor discussion tied to an official map layer rather than a guessed neighborhood name.
The Town Historian’s linked Koda Vista survey adds a different kind of local context. It describes a southeast Greece neighborhood of about 14 blocks, largely single-family in form, developed through four subdivisions and multiple eras by a Koda-associated development corporation. A code area or historic survey can explain the development context of a block, but neither proves association membership or who lives at an address.
Greece Neighbor File Fallbacks
Some address-keyed public records have no live name or case search. The Greece Building Department reviews permits, plans, zoning and inspections, and Planning Board files can supply subdivision or site-plan context. No searchable public permit history was located. For a defined parcel, request a street address, tax-map number, approximate date, permit type, applicant or owner, inspection number, or file number rather than asking for a generalized people list.
Code Compliance can supply notice or order history through a defined request, but the Town did not publish a live violation docket in the research. Use the Building Department, Code Compliance, or a focused request under the New York Freedom of Information Law (FOIL), Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84-90. FOIL reaches existing executive-agency records; it does not require an office to create a neighborhood roster or conduct research.
Greece Neighbor Privacy Limits
A parcel map is not a household roster. Nonowners, children, visitors, private utility customers, delivery recipients, protected voters, and people using confidential address arrangements will not appear as a public parcel result. The New York Address Confidentiality Program provides a substitute mailing address and mail forwarding for qualifying participants. An ACP participant’s actual address must not be repeated from an assessment, voter, or court record.
Official records and commercial neighbor-lookup categories are not interchangeable. A commercial category can merge stale addresses, same-name records, property data, directories, court data, and voter material. The underlying Greece source retains the relevant field limits, date, and custodian.
| Route | Strength | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Official GIS, assessment, deed, voter, and directory records | Shows the custodian, record purpose, address or parcel context, and access limits | Each source answers only its own question and may omit protected or nonpublic information |
| Commercial neighbor-lookup category | May combine several public and directory sources into one search interface | Can merge people, retain stale addresses, or hide source limits; verify every result with the official record |
Note: Keep the search focused on the exact record needed and do not republish raw addresses or protected details.
